Pre-prosthetic surgery
Pre-prosthetic surgery is the preparation of your mouth before placing a prosthesis.
Dentures sit on the bone ridge, so the bone must be a proper shape and size to accommodate the denture comfortably. If the underlying bone is uneven or sharp the dentures will not fit properly. The bone is surgically reshaped and made smooth so that dentures will fit.
The bone underneath dentures must be flat, with no sharp edges. Oral surgery will remove excess bone to ensure maximum comfort.
The following surgeries may be required to prepare your mouth for dentures.
- Excess bone removed
- Smoothing and reshaping of the bone
- Reduction of the Bone ridge
- Exposure to impacted teeth
- Removal of excess gum tissue
